Student Council

Candidates for Student Council may run for the following positions:

  • President – Eighth grader
  • Vice-President – Eighth grader
  • Secretary – Seventh grader
  • Sergeant-at-Arms – Seventh grader
  • Homeroom Class Representatives – All grades

Elections will be held the first week in November. Candidates must complete an application in order to run. The application consists of a brief questionnaire and essay and requires the recommendation of two teachers. Once the campaign process begins, applications will be available from Homeroom teachers.

Candidates should take into consideration that Student Council meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of every month after school from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m. in Room 29. Students must provide their own transportation after school on that day. Officers are expected to maintain an 80% grade point average or higher.

Team teachers screen the applications and determine the candidates for each office. Once the candidates are chosen, they may begin their campaigns. Campaign advertisements are limited to one campaign poster, no larger than 36″ x 24,” and are displayed on the walls outside the café. Campaign buttons/ribbons/stickers are permitted. Distribution of candy and other prizes to garner votes is not allowed.  Candidates also present a one to three minute speech sharing their platform in a video that will be aired school-wide.

All students vote through their Seventh Period classes. Each homeroom will elect a representative and alternate to constitute the Representative Branch of SGA.

Please direct questions to Mrs. Flowers in Room 29.
